The Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail benchmark released on April 12, and it hasn’t exactly been the smoothest of rides. While this is to be expected, considering the massive number of graphical changes coming with 7.0, it’s nice to know that XIV producer Naoki Yoshida is working hard to perfect the teaser software.

Since the announcement that there were, indeed, issues with the original benchmark, it seems that the development team has been hard at work not only identifying the issues, but also starting to work on fixes.

According to the most recent update, posted on the Lodestone on May 2, the team are working on not only fixing the issues in preparation for the release of Dawntrail itself, but also to implement them into an updated benchmark.

Apparently, a lot of the work on the character creation part of the benchmark has already been completed and is in the fine-tuning and refining stage, with Yoshida taking over final inspections.

Meanwhile, the work on issues surrounding data and processes is still underway and scheduled to be complete on May 15, with Yoshida doing his final inspections the following day. Due to the amount of things that need to be looked over, this final inspection is expected to take approximately a week to complete.

Although we don’t know exactly when an updated benchmark will be released, Yoshida has said that we can expect it to drop at some point after May 23. He apologizes for the lack of exact date, something which is heartening to see but, in my opinion, unnecessary considering the effort being put into perfecting such small aspects of the benchmark, going into Dawntrail.

With the next Live Letter from the Producer happening on May 16, it’s possible that we will find out more information regarding these updates during the stream.
