Key Takeaways

  • The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be delisted from app stores on October 31, 2024.
  • The game will shut down completely on January 24, 2025, frustrating fans.
  • The loss of popular mobile games highlights preservation challenges faced in the industry.

October 31 will be the day that The Simpsons: Tapped Out is removed from app stores. The Simpsons: Tapped Out, based on the incredibly popular cartoon, was first released on iOS in 2012 before making its way to Android devices the following year. Whereas most Simpsons games are beat ’em ups or platformers, The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a city-building game.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out gives players the opportunity to build their own version of Springfield. As a free-to-play mobile game, The Simpsons: Tapped Out has been criticized for its microtransactions, but it’s also been praised for its faithfulness to the TV series. There are many mobile gamers who are big fans of The Simpsons: Tapped Out and continue to play it over a decade after its release. Sadly, those days are numbered, and soon, potential new fans won’t be able to download the game at all.

EA keeps an updated list of its games and services that are on the verge of shutting down, and it recently added The Simpsons: Tapped Out to said list. The Simpsons: Tapped Out is shutting down on January 24, 2025, but the game will be delisted from app stores well before then. The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be delisted on October 31, at which point those that haven’t already downloaded it will not be available to try the game.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out Shut Down Dates

  • Delisting: October 31, 2024
  • Shut Down: January 24, 2025

From a game preservation standpoint, it’s always frustrating whenever a game is shut down and no longer accessible to the public. Mobile games are especially at risk of being lost to the void as no physical versions exist. The Simpsons: Tapped Out may be one of the latest popular mobile games to be delisted, but it certainly won’t be the last.

Other popular mobile games have been shuttered over the years, with one of the most notable examples occurring this past April. Kim Kardashian: Hollywood was shut down on April 7, 2024, and while there may be many who roll their eyes at such a game, there are just as many that enjoyed it and bought its microtransactions. Mobile game economies are set up in a way that players feel like they’ve literally invested in them, and so to have the games completely shut down is genuinely devastating for hardcore fans.

It’s a shame what’s happened with The Simpsons: Tapped Out, and Simpsons video games in general. Many of the classic Simpsons games remain trapped on older consoles, despite calls by fans to see games like The Simpsons: Hit & Run remastered for modern platforms. Licensing issues are likely getting in the way of those dreams, unfortunately.

A Stardew Valley player with over 250 hours in the cozy farming game discovers an extremely helpful feature that can be easily overlooked.

Reddit user SplashJaguarCo shared their design with fellow fans on the Stardew Valley subreddit, showcasing a sweatshirt with a custom embroidered design. The artist says it’s their favorite Stardew Valley festival, and they chose to celebrate it with the machine-embroidered design. The design itself is subtle, and might not stand out to anyone who isn’t familiar with the game. However, it’s perfect for those who consider Stardew Valley one of their favorites. It’s not hard to imagine tourists visiting Pelican Town picking up a shirt like this on their way out to commemorate the event and the memories they made.

Stardew Valley Fans React to Charming Sweatshirt

Fans of the series have already begun leaving comments about the shirt, praising the fan for their concept and execution. One expressed curiosity whether the shirt was available for sale. While the seller hasn’t responded to them, a prior post on their account indicates that they sell this as well as a few other custom-made Stardew Valley-themed shirts, including one based on Pierre’s produce store and another with a cheeky joke about passing out in Stardew Valley‘s mines. The artist also sells designs based on Krobus and some of the farm animals of the game.

With the release date for Stardew Valley 1.6’s update on consoles rapidly approaching, chances are even more fans will be celebrating the title in the near future. At this point, it remains to be seen if Stardew Valley gets any new major content updates past that. However, even if the game stagnates outside of fan-made mods, the overall appeal of the game has lasted for nearly a decade now. It’s safe to say that Stardew Valley will remain a classic for the foreseeable future.
