Key Takeaways

  • First major DLC for Black Myth: Wukong may release near Chinese New Year 2025.
  • Game Science has not confirmed DLC details, but two major DLCs are rumored to be on the way.

The first major DLC for Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong reportedly has a release window set for early 2025, just in time for Chinese New Year celebrations. Black Myth: Wukong is expected to receive two major DLCs that will add a slew of new content, if rumors turn out to be accurate.

Released on August 20 for PlayStation 5 and PC, Black Myth: Wukong quickly became one of 2024’s most successful game releases. B lack Myth: Wukong has sold over 18 million copies worldwide and generated roughly $700 million in revenue in just two weeks after the game’s launch. In addition, PlayStation confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong was the most downloaded PlayStation 5 game of August 2024 in North America, Europe, and Japan. Black Myth: Wukong sets a precedent for new IPs as one of the fastest selling games of all time, and its momentum may carry over into the release of the game’s first DLC.

According to gaming analyst Daniel Camilo on Twitter, sources close to Game Science claim that DLC for Black Myth: Wukong will release sometime near Chinese New Year festivities, which take place on January 29, 2025. This means that the DLC could release at the very end of January or sometime soon after in February, but a specific release date is not set in stone yet. Details about the DLC’s story and content are still unclear as well.

Black Myth: Wukong DLC Could Release in January 2025

  • A release is reportedly planned around the Chinese New Year celebration on January 29, 2025.
  • Information about the DLC’s story and content is still unknown.

Camilo claims that Black Myth: Wukong sales have already surpassed 20 million units as of September 2024, with 70% of total sales coming from the player base in China. The analyst estimates that around 20% of the game’s total player base, or roughly four million players, will purchase the upcoming DLC. According to Camilo, “novelty and national pride” are factors that contributed to Black Myth: Wukong’s strong initial sales, but this will play less of a role once the DLC is close to releasing. The game’s challenging nature is also considered as a factor, since millions of casual gamers in China may not be interested in purchasing the DLC if they do not proceed further with their Black Myth: Wukong playthrough.

It’s worth noting that the Black Myth: Wukong developers did not officially unveil the new DLC or comment on its development status. Rumors suggest that two major DLCs for Black Myth: Wukong are planned, and the game’s Xbox Series X|S version is still coming soon. Like the DLC, Black Myth: Wukong for Xbox Series X|S does not have a release date.

Key Takeaways

  • A Pokemon fan designs a Sailord evolution for Wailord, resembling a boat. Reddit approves with 5.9K upvotes.
  • The artist’s Sailord features sail-like protrusions, drawing from sailing inspiration.
  • Fan artists enjoy creating new evolutions for Pokemon, inspiring original concepts in the community.

A creative Pokemon fan has designed a new evolution for Wailord, turning the massive whale-like creature into something resembling a boat. Fan art of new evolutions is popular in the Pokemon community, and this latest Wailord concept has become a hit on Reddit.

Among the Pokemon introduced in Gen 3, Wailord stands out thanks to its enormous size. Resembling a whale, the Water-type Pokemon towers over most other creatures in the franchise and makes its home in the water. While Wailord evolves from Wailmer, that has not stopped one fan from adding another evolution to the line.

Pokemon Fan Designs Incredible Paradox Form for Wailord

A Pokemon fan creates their take on what a Paradox form for Wailord would look like in the games and posts their work on social media for all to see.

Drawing on sailing for inspiration, a Reddit user known as Matratzfratz created an evolution for Wailord called Sailord. As the name suggests, the fan concept gave the Pokemon an appearance reminiscent of a boat. For example, its back fin looked like a rudder seen on a ship. In addition, two white sail-like protrusions were visible on the creature’s back, suggesting it could use the wind to help navigate. Sailord even had a horn-like projection at the tip of its head that resembled the bow of a boat.

Pokemon Fan’s New Evolution for Wailord

Since posting this new Wailord evolution concept to the Pokemon subreddit, many gamers have taken notice. With over 5.9K upvotes, many enjoyed Sailord, and some even wondered how big a Gigantamax version of the evolution would be. Fortunately, Matratzfratz did not leave the idea to fans’ imaginations, as they shared a picture of this form of the new evolution relative to the Earth and the Moon. Among the other comments, many enjoyed the artist’s reference to SpongeBob SquarePants when describing what this Pokemon was used for. “The pioneers used to ride these babies for miles,” suggesting Sailord was utilized as a mode of transportation. The addition of the Flying type also suggests that the large sail-like protrusions on its back might have allowed it to take flight.

Creating new evolutions for Pokemon is a favorite hobby of many fan artists, and Matratzfratz has designed evolutions for other pocket monsters. Recently, the fan made a new evolution for Sandygast, imagining it as a Ground/Electric-type. They have also made Paradox forms and regional variants for many other Pokemon.

While gamers wait for Pokemon Legends: Z-A to release in 2025, many other fans besides Matratzfratz have created fan art of their favorite Pokemon. For example, one gamer recently painted a galaxy-themed picture of Mew, one of the rarest pocket monsters from Gen 1. Hopefully, these impressive creations from fans like Matratzfratz will inspire even more original concepts in the months ahead.
